- Changes to OzTeX 1.8
- ====================
-
- TeX changes
- -----------
-
- • TeX is now at version 3.14159. The latest version of plain.tex has been
- put in :TeX-inputs:Plain: and Plain.fmt rebuilt.
-
- • The latest version of ltpatch.ltx has been put in :TeX-inputs:LaTeX: and
- LaTeX.fmt rebuilt.
-
- Configuration file changes
- --------------------------
-
- • A new config file called "Add BaKoMa Fonts" has been included to support
- the BaKoMa fonts created by Basil K. Malyshev. A corresponding encoding
- file called BaKoMaCM.enc has been added to :PS-files:Encodings:.
- The BaKoMa package contains FREE PostScript and TrueType versions of most
- Computer Modern fonts. The quality of the PostScript fonts is not quite as
- good as the CM/PS fonts from Blue Sky Research, but the price is better!
- The BaKoMa fonts can be obtained by anonymous ftp from any CTAN site in
- /tex-archive/fonts/cm/ps-type1/bakoma/mac. Get 00readme.mac first.
- The TrueType fonts in /tex-archive/fonts/cm/ps-type1/bakoma/mac/tt make
- OzTeX's preview much more readable. As distributed, the TrueType font
- names will be added to the end of OzTeX's Font menu. This makes OzTeX
- slower to start up. Comments in "Add BaKoMa Fonts" explain how the fonts
- can be renamed so that they will not appear in the Font menu.
- [Thanks to Basil Malyshev and John Salmento.]
-
- • "Add CM/PS Fonts" now has entries for the fonts used by the LaTeX "slides"
- document class. A few minor errors have also been fixed.
- [Thanks to Tom Scavo.]
-
- • Selecting a config file that uses "=+" to start the PostScript font list
- will no longer waste memory if the file is selected more than once.
- OzTeX now checks to see if a given TFM name already exists in the current
- list (case is not significant). If it does then that entry is updated with
- the remaining information on the line, otherwise a new entry is added at
- the end of the current list. Note that this check is also done if "=="
- is used to start the PostScript font list. This might trip up some people
- who have relied on the fact that a config file could have the same TFM name
- listed more than once and only the FIRST entry would be used by OzTeX.
- Now the LAST entry will be used.
-
- • The Default config file will automatically load any listed config files
- whose names start with "+".
-
- Previewing changes
- ------------------
-
- • The magnified rectangle (via Option-Command-click) is a bit wider.
-
- Printing changes
- ----------------
-
- • Fixed a bug (introduced in 1.8) that could cause clipping problems at the
- right and bottom paper edges on non-PostScript printers.
-
- Miscellaneous changes
- ---------------------
-
- • Native PowerPC versions of OzTeX and OzTools are provided. Typesetting is
- about 4 times faster on a Power Mac.
-
- • OzTeX (and OzTools) now store user settings in a preferences file rather
- than in the application. This should be the last version for which you
- will have to restore all your window and menu item settings. Hooray!
- The preferences file is created in the System's Preferences folder under
- System 7 and later, or in the System folder itself in earlier Systems.
- Note that you can move the preferences file to the same folder as the
- application. I prefer this because it simplifies my backup process.
- Because OzTeX and OzTools no longer modify themselves you can run them
- from a read-only volume.
-
- • Fixed an incompatibility problem with After Dark 3.0.
-
- • Fixed a bug that could cause the title bar of the OzTeX or view window to
- be hidden behind the menu bar after using OzTeX on multiple monitors.
-
- • The flashing OzTeX icon in the Application menu will appear in colour if
- you are using System 7 or later and a colour monitor.
- [Thanks to Geoff Keating.]
-
- • The OzTeX distribution files are now self-extracting archives created by
- Bill Goodman's Compact Pro. This should make installation a bit easier.
-
- Dvips and Metafont
- ------------------
-
- • All Tom Kiffe's programs (except PrintPS) in the Dvips and Metafont folders
- are "fat" applications that run in native mode on 68020+ and PowerPC Macs.
- Tom will provide 68000 versions on request to people who have paid his
- shareware fee.
-
- • Renamed psfonts.CM/PS in :Dvips:ps: to psfonts.CMPS in case somebody tries
- to get dvips to read it (the "/" would have resulted in failure).
- Also created psfonts.BaKoMa for people who want to use the BaKoMa fonts
- with dvips.
